From 17 to 22 February 2025, the International Philatelic Exhibition URUGUAY 2025 was held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, organized under the patronage of the International Federation of Philately (FIP).
The exhibition was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Achugarry (MACA), located in the picturesque coastal area of Manantales. The organizer was the Federation of Uruguayan Philately (FUF) with the support of the Uruguayan Postal Service and the Philatelic Circle of Montevideo. The event is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the independence of Uruguay, which gives additional significance and symbolism to the event.
The exhibition presented 265 exhibits from 49 countries, including classes of traditional and thematic philately, solid objects and aerophilately, open class, etc.
The Literary class presented 74 exhibits. These are various printed catalogues, philatelic magazines, monographs and publications.
A separate subsection in the Literary Class was dedicated to digital literature and websites - their number was not large, only 11 exhibits from 7 countries (Australia, India, Italy, China, Poland, Portugal, Russia).
Both personal websites and websites of philatelic organizations and societies took part in the exhibition. The electronic resources presented at the exhibition were very different in style and content: national electronic catalogues, a news blog about postage stamps, a personal website on the postal history of Italy, as well as 4 electronic books (thematic publications on pigeons, musical instruments, ecology, hands and gestures in philately).
The Literary Class was assessed by a jury headed by Aldo Samamé y Samamé from Peru. There were no gold medals awarded in this class, but 6 Large Vermeil Medals were awarded, the maximum number of points (88) were received by sites from Italy and Russia.
The site "Horses on Stamps" also participated in the exhibition in Uruguay and received a score of 86 points out of 100 possible and, accordingly, was awarded a Large Vermeil Medal.
Evaluation of exhibits at philatelic exhibitions
At philatelic exhibitions, exhibits are not compared with each other, each exhibit is evaluated individually according to several criteria, assigning a certain number of points. So for websites and electronic publications there are 4 main criteria:
1) Treatment of content (the maximum possible number of points is 40).
2) Originality and depth of research (40 points).
3) Technical implementation (15 points).
4) Appearance and presentation (5 points).
The total score of the exhibit is formed from the sum of the points scored and, accordingly, this or that medal is awarded.
